Morocco Braces for Mass Exodus: Over 69,000 Civil Servants Set to Retire in 2024

In total, 69,360 civil servants of the State will be admitted to retirement in 2024.
National Education and Higher Education, Health and the Ministry of Finance are departments with considerable numbers of civil servants who will retire in 2024, reports L’économiste.
Thus, nearly 14.74% of the staff of the National Education and Higher Education will retire between 2019 and 2024. This will be followed by the staff of the Health and the Ministry of Economy and Finance with, respectively, 13% and 11.14%.
The same source indicates that the age groups over 50 years old represent more than 30% of the staff of the Ministries of National Education and Higher Education, Health and Economy and Finance, as well as Justice.
As for the wage bill, the National Education and Higher Education department alone absorbs 49.8% of personnel expenses, or nearly half.
It is also the main public employer, absorbing half of the civil service (48.6%). The Ministries of the Interior and Health represent respectively 19.5% and 10.3% of the state personnel expenses, with respective rates of 23.6% and 9.5% of civil servants employed.
