Morocco Braces for Intense Heatwave as Temperatures Set to Soar Above 45°C

A new heatwave episode in Morocco, just alerted the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), which forecasts temperatures largely exceeding 45 degrees in several regions.
A significant increase in temperatures, exceeding the monthly averages by 5 to 8 degrees, is expected. This phenomenon is explained by the rise of a dry and hot air mass from the south of the country, it is indicated.
The heatwave is expected to begin this Friday, June 23 and continue until Tuesday, June 27. According to the DGM, the heat will affect most Moroccan regions, in particular the Saiss, Loukkos, Gharb, Rif, the phosphate plateaus and Oulmès, the plains of Tadla, Al Haouz, Rehamna, Tensift, as well as the Southeast, Souss and the southern provinces.
The coasts and the northern and central Atlantic plains will not be spared. The forecasts indicate maximum temperatures ranging between 40 and 45 degrees for the interior plains, the South and the Southeast, and between 37 and 42 degrees on the Loukkos, Gharb, Chaouia, Abda, Chiadma and the central Atlantic coasts. Temperatures on the northern Atlantic coasts should vary between 34 and 37 degrees. From Sunday, these values could be exceeded in the Souss region and the interior plains, according to the DGM press release.
