Morocco’s Al Boraq Train Ranks Among World’s Fastest, Reaching 357 km/h

Al Boraq, the Moroccan TGV, is one of the fastest trains in the world. This is what the multidisciplinary platform Statista reveals.
Statista places Al Boraq in the ranking of the world’s fastest trains. The platform took into account the world speed records set by the trains. In 2016, it revealed the commercial speeds of these trains. It appears that the Moroccan TGV set a speed record of 357 km/h. With a commercial speed of 320 km/h, Al Boraq, which was inaugurated in 2018, connects Casablanca to Tangier in 2h10, instead of 4h45 previously.
The Moroccan TGV was a commercial success in 2019, its first year of operation. In total, 3 million passengers were recorded. "Since Al Boraq has been operational, I am no longer attacked by the press, so I conclude that this project is a success that was worth waiting for," Mohamed Rabie Khlie, CEO of the National Railway Office (ONCF), had said when presenting the first year’s results of the TGV operation.
With a speed record of 603 km/h, set in 2015 by SCMaglev/Shinkansen, Japan is at the top of the ranking of the world’s fastest trains. It is followed by France (The TGV, 574.8 km/h in 2007), Shanghai (Transrapid Shanghai 501 km/h in 2003), China (CRH380B, 487.3 km/h in 2011), South Korea (KTX, 421.4 km/h in 2013), Germany (ICE, 406 km/h in 1988) Spain (AVE, 403.7 km/h in 2006) and Italy (Frecciarossa 1000, 393.8 km/h in 2016).
