Morocco Boosts Public Sector Doctor Salaries to Retain Medical Talent

In its program for the year 2022, the government has undertaken to review the living and working conditions of Moroccan doctors working in the public sector, particularly with regard to salaries. A proposal has been introduced in parliament to this effect.
It is specifically for Khaled Ait Taleb to set up a system of salaries, allowances and material incentives for all health professionals with a fixed salary and another variable salary depending on the services rendered and travel.
In parliament, the minister explained his project, assuring that it aims to adopt unified standards for human resources management, and to establish complementarity between the public and private sectors, adding that "when we talk about the health civil service, this includes all the components of the health system".
Making a historical comparison of salaries, Ait Taleb stressed that in 1970, the Moroccan doctor occupied the third place in the social scale. "Today, he has fallen to 25th place, and if this reform is not implemented, he will fall even further," he said.
Ultimately, the reform initiated will make it possible to set up regional groupings at the level of university hospitals, he indicated, specifying that it will first result from regional medical programs and the need to offer services that meet the expectations of the inhabitants of each region.
