Morocco Boosts Police Presence Near Schools to Combat Crime and Protect Students

In order to fight against drug trafficking, harassment, assaults and other types of crime, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has given new directives to its services to strengthen surveillance around school establishments. Thus, police officers and motorcycle brigades will patrol permanently near schools.
The objective of these directives, according to Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, is to bring the security services closer to students and schools for the protection of officials and people who frequent them.
There will be an increase in the number of patrols by police officers and the motorcycle brigade, particularly during the entry and exit hours of students and teachers.
This increased surveillance will be accompanied by an increase in the pace of the hunt for wanted persons for offenses committed in the vicinity of schools.
A toll-free number will be connected to the Wilayas of Security and the districts to report, according to the newspaper, any suspicious behavior around schools.
According to the daily, the DGSN, in a report reviewing the achievements in 2018, indicated that 3,015 offenses were committed in the vicinity of schools.
The interventions of the police services made it possible to arrest 3,102 people, including 587 minors, while seizing 6.493 kilograms of Chira and 143 psychotropic tablets.
