Morocco Boosts Military with $136 Million Turkish Armored Vehicle Deal

Morocco has once again turned to Turkey to acquire new weapons. This time, it has placed a major order for two Cobra 2 armored vehicles.
The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have recently ordered 200 Cobra 2 armored vehicles, manufactured by the Turkish defense company Otokar, reveals the economic and political news site Africa Intelligence, specifying that about twenty of these vehicles will be assigned to Moroccan peacekeepers participating in UN peacekeeping missions. The amount of this major order is around $136 million. The Turkish leader in the automotive industry will provide the FAR with high-performance armored vehicles, as well as spare parts, maintenance equipment and training services. The first deliveries are expected by the end of 2024. The final deliveries should take place throughout the following year.
Equipped with superior technical and tactical characteristics, the COBRA II 4x4 wheeled tactical armored vehicle offers better ballistic protection, as well as increased payload capacity and interior volume. It also offers a wide range of capabilities, including as an armored personnel carrier, anti-tank vehicle, reconnaissance platform, ground surveillance unit, forward observation post and even armored ambulance. With its V-shaped steel hull, the Cobra 2 is protected against mines (anti-personnel and anti-tank), improvised explosive devices, artillery fragments and long-range weapons. It can be equipped with various weapons and turret options, including 12.7mm machine guns, 20mm cannons and anti-tank missiles. This vehicle had originally been designed for the Turkish army.
