Morocco Boosts Legal Services for Citizens Living Abroad, Justice Minister Says

The Ministry of Justice is working to strengthen the legal and judicial services intended for Moroccans residing abroad (MREs). On Monday in Nador, the Minister of Justice, Mohamed Benabdelkader, stated that his department attaches particular importance to this category of citizens.
The celebration of Migrants’ Day gave rise to many activities, including a meeting on the theme: "The Justice Sector at the Service of MREs". In his speech, the Minister of Justice stressed that "several actions have been taken in this direction, in particular the signing of many judicial cooperation agreements with several countries, whether at the criminal or civil level".
For him, it is a question of "facilitating the management of disputes and ensuring the enforcement of court decisions". This is why, among other things, practical guides have been published to facilitate various judicial procedures and measures, and digital applications have been set up to facilitate "access to services such as the criminal record, the commercial register and the monitoring of cases brought before the courts", reports the MAP.
He also emphasized the participation of magistrates and executives of the Department of Justice in meetings and awareness-raising and communication campaigns organized for the benefit of MREs and held in Morocco or abroad. Mohamed Benabdelkader mentioned "the appointment of several judges as liaison judges or notary judges at the level of Moroccan embassies and consulates".
He also mentioned the draft law organizing the institution of the liaison judge, which is currently being finalized. It will be the subject, in the coming days, of "consultations before being submitted to the approval and adoption procedure". Morocco currently has 4 liaison judges at the level of the Kingdom’s embassies in Madrid, Paris, Brussels and Rome, in addition to 9 notary judges deployed in Paris, Madrid, Rome, Brussels, The Hague, Berlin, Abu Dhabi, Lyon and New York, the same source presides.
