Morocco Boosts Health Sector Funding by 25%, Aims for 10% of National Budget

The budget allocated to the health sector in Morocco has increased by 25% between 2016 and 2020. This was stated this week by the Head of Government during the presentation of the progress report on the government’s action.
In the health sector, the government has made remarkable efforts to improve budgets and budget items, said El Saâdeddine El Otmani, noting that the budget dedicated to the health sector has risen by nearly 25% between 2016 and 2020, an increase of 7.27% of the 2020 general budget, which is slowly moving towards the future goal of reaching 10%.
Furthermore, the government has implemented several measures in this sector. These include improving the quality of services, health infrastructure and access to medical tools and equipment, reducing the price of 1,500 medicines and the cost of medical bills. In addition to these measures, there is also the project to universalize compulsory health insurance (AMO) for 2021 and 2022 for 22 million people.
