Morocco Boosts Domestic Tourism Initiatives to Drive Economic Growth

The Moroccan authorities claim to have carried out several actions to promote and strengthen domestic tourism in 2023.
The Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy says it is paying particular attention to domestic tourism, considered as an essential pillar of the sector as it contributes to economic, social and local growth, job creation and the revitalization of other related sectors. This is at least what the department affirms in its response to a written question from the parliamentary group of the Popular Movement (MP).
In this document, the ministry indicates that domestic tourism recorded 74 million overnight stays between January and October 2023, an increase of 9% compared to the same period in 2022. According to the ministry, domestic tourism represents 35% of overnight stays nationwide. It is also one of the essential points of the strategic roadmap of the tourism sector for the period 2023-2026.
To promote domestic tourism, the ministry is working to make the most popular tourist products more attractive for national tourists and to create tourist complexes adapted to their needs and purchasing power. In this perspective, the ministry plans to highlight historical cities more and promote cultural, natural and sporting activities.
The ministry also recalls the two promotional campaigns launched, in coordination with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), to promote domestic tourism. These are the "Ntlaqawfbladna" and "NtlaqawfMarrakech" campaigns, the objective of which was to encourage Moroccans to discover the assets and tourist riches of the kingdom.
