Some 3,315 lifeguards will be responsible for the safety of vacationers during the summer season. They are distributed across the various Moroccan beaches, under the supervision of 225 supervisors.
To successfully carry out this mission, the General Directorate of Civil Protection has strengthened its means and intervention tools. These include 20 additional rescue boats, 10 jet skis, 200 diving fins and 100 rescue boards, 800 buoys, 100 life jackets, 100 binoculars and 600 parasols.
During the recruitment phase, these seasonal lifeguards received training in sea rescue and first aid under the supervision of professional rescuers and doctors affiliated with the Civil Protection, as well as training in communication techniques under the supervision of the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (Anapec).
Reviewing the drownings recorded during the year in Moroccan beaches, the authorities announced 33,061 cases, including 94 deaths. The largest number of drowning cases was observed in the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. At the same time, 22 people were reported missing, most of them in unguarded beaches.
