Morocco Boosts Anti-Venom Distribution to Combat Scorpion and Snake Attacks

To prevent deaths related to scorpion stings and snake bites, the Ministry of Health has taken a series of measures, including the distribution of anti-venom serums to the various hospital facilities in the Kingdom.
The summer season in Morocco is known for an increase in the risks of these stings and bites in certain regions, particularly rural areas. Each year, the kingdom records several cases of poisoning from scorpion stings and snake bites.
According to experts, the only way to deal with this scourge, in addition to awareness-raising, is to increase the production of serums and antidotes, as well as the development of scientific research in this field.
Questioned on the subject by SNRT, Naima Ghalem, head of anti-poison vigilance at the National Anti-Poison and Pharmacovigilance Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Health, explained that all the hospital centers concerned with the treatment of these poisons have been equipped with the necessary medicines and equipment.
More specifically, 600 anti-snake bite antidotes have been distributed to all hospitals. In addition, 1,200 to 1,500 sachets of medicines used in the treatment of scorpion stings, as well as medicines for management in intensive care units, have been provided, she stressed.
