Morocco Bolsters Sahara Defense Wall Amid Rising Tensions with Algeria

The presence of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) has been increasingly noticeable in recent months in the border region with Algeria. They are working to extend the Sahara sand wall and to ensure the permanent security of this very sensitive area.
Recently, the Moroccan army has extended the Twizky defensive wall by 50 kilometers, at a distance of three kilometers from the Algerian wall, forming an intersection between the sand wall that extends from Guerguerate and the Rikz mountains, reports Jeune Afrique. The magazine points out that these actions are a consequence of the military intervention, at the end of November 2020, in the Moroccan-Mauritanian border region, to dislodge elements of the Polisario Front who, since September, had been preventing any passage at the Guerguerate border.
Another setback for the Polisario, a former point of its infiltration in the Orekziz mountains has been dismantled, forcing it to cross the Algerian defense lines to reach the region. This cannot be done without the blessing of Algeria, observes the weekly, which announces the upcoming intensification of the Tifariti belt towards Amgala.
