Morocco Bolsters Anti-Corruption Efforts with National Strategy and Legal Reforms

Morocco has made the fight against corruption a national priority. In this sense, the kingdom has equipped itself with a sophisticated legal arsenal and is also striving to implement several prevention and repression measures, including the adoption of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (2015-2025).
The adoption of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (2015-2025), recommended by the United Nations Convention against Corruption, with a framework for each country, was carried out in coordination with all the departments and sectors concerned, Ahmed Laamoumri, Secretary General of the Department of Administrative Reform at the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform, told MAP.
He highlighted a set of projects carried by the various ministerial departments and civil society. According to Ahmed Laamoumri, this national strategy, with a commission chaired by the Head of Government, aims to strengthen integrity and reduce acts of corruption in a "very visible" way by 2025.
For his part, the President of the National Authority for Probity, Prevention and the Fight against Corruption (INPPLC), Mohamed Bachir Rachdi, said that the study of the latest policies and anti-corruption measures has revealed a gap between the efforts made and the results felt. In other words, the segmented approach did not meet expectations.
"Sustained, inclusive and sustainable development cannot exist in the presence of widespread corruption. It is therefore essential that the action against corruption be guaranteed to stem the phenomenon and reduce it very strongly," stressed the President of the INPPLC.
