Morocco Bolsters Air Force with Advanced US Missiles from Boeing

Morocco is strengthening the capabilities of its Royal Air Force with the acquisition of Harpoon Block II (AGM-84L) anti-ship missiles and SLAM-ER (AGM-84H/K) cruise missiles from the American manufacturer Boeing.

New weapons for the Royal Air Force. Morocco has acquired Harpoon Block II (AGM-84L) anti-ship missiles for its F-16 Viper fighter jets, 24 of which will be received by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in 2026, and medium and long-range cruise missiles, from the American aerospace and defense company Boeing, reports the US spending website. This will strengthen its sovereignty over its maritime domain.

Equipped with a 525 kg explosive charge and a range that can reach 280 km, the Harpoon Block II missiles represent the latest generation of anti-ship missiles. They are capable of destroying floating targets, as well as enemy maritime targets, including aircraft carriers and landing craft, with devastating accuracy. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the medium and long-range cruise missiles are capable of reaching land and naval targets. They can be guided with great precision to reach their objectives.

Continuing the modernization of its army, Morocco should soon acquire a fifth-generation Russian Amur-class submarine, equipped with an anaerobic propulsion system. It also plans to buy French Barracuda submarines, after the cancellation by Australia of the purchase contract signed with France. The industrial group Naval Group, specialized in defense naval construction, has conducted a marketing campaign in Morocco, in order to sell its submarines, believes the French daily La Tribune.
