Morocco’s Benmoussa to Juggle Ambassador Role with Development Commission Chairmanship

Chakib Benmoussa remains Morocco’s ambassador to Paris, thus combining this function with that of chairman of the special commission on the new development model.
Following Chakib Benmoussa’s appointment by King Mohammed VI, many had thought that his ambassador’s post would be vacant. But relatively well-informed sources explain that despite his mission at the head of the commission on the new development model, the diplomat will continue to assume his functions in Paris, and will travel to Rabat whenever the need arises.
In addition, according to Le360, the mission of this commission is limited in time. It has a deadline of seven months to deliver a report and proposals that will be implemented under the supervision of appropriate follow-up mechanisms.
Mohammed VI will proceed in the coming days to appoint the other members of the commission. They may reside in Morocco or be Moroccans living abroad. The only requirement is to meet the criteria of: a sense of commitment, proven expertise and a remarkable individual background. Another detail of great importance, the mission at the head as well as within the commission remains a patriotic duty that will be done on a voluntary basis, said the same source.
