Morocco’s Ex-PM Benkirane Reflects on PJD’s Role in Stability and Royal Relations

In a speech delivered to the PDJ members of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region on March 13, Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary General of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), discussed his relationship with King Mohammed VI.
Abdelilah Benkirane reminisces about the years spent at the head of the Moroccan government. "Even if we wanted to, Morocco could never erase from history the participation of the PJD in the stability and security of the Moroccan state in 2011," he emphasized, recalling the actions taken during his term, including the "reform of the compensation fund" initiated by his government in 2015 and the royal support. "I faced a blockage that lasted for months during the preparation of this fund dedicated to widows and it was His Majesty (King Mohammed VI) who had received me alone after a Council of Ministers to give me the green light and launch the project. ’I myself am relieved,’ he had told me."
For the former head of government, quoted by TelQuel, "the true ruler of Morocco is" the sovereign and "not the head of government." "The policy" of King Mohammed VI, he nuanced "contains a lot of rationality and caution, but he can be wrong sometimes." He also congratulates himself on the success of the reforms implemented during his term. A term which, according to Abdelilah Benkirane, "is a model of good management".
