Morocco Begins Production of 500 Locally-Made Ventilators for COVID-19 Patients

Morocco is preparing to make 500 ventilators directly from the factory of the Société d’études et de réalisations mécaniques de précision (SERMP) available to its hospitals.
This industrial unit has been reorganized to contribute to the manufacture of made-in-Morocco artificial respirators for patients affected by the new coronavirus (Covid-19). To date, 20 units have already been assembled.
According to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, the engineers have mobilized and the entire ecosystem has been set up "very quickly" in this aeronautical factory for the manufacture of these Moroccan ventilators. "We are already on the second version which, in addition to providing ventilation, has sensors and sends oxygen in a more technical way," said the minister, who also praised the contribution of all stakeholders, each in their field, for the realization of the first 500 ventilators that will be ready next week.
For his part, Badre Jaafar, director of SERMP, assured that these ventilators are manufactured in accordance with aeronautical standards and norms. According to him, this product has followed the manufacturing process of parts that go on Airbus and Boeing aircraft engines. "The design of this ventilator is totally Moroccan, from the manufacture of the gearbox motor, the electronic cards, to the other mechanical parts, up to the assembly," he said.
