In Morocco, BDS is stepping up its action against Carrefour

After numerous calls for a boycott, BDS plans other actions against Carrefour, a multinational distributor based in France, which, according to the movement, is involved in the war crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
BDS should organize demonstrations on December 30 and 31 in front of Carrefour supermarkets in Morocco, despite the ban by local authorities. "The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement calls on you, groups and individuals, to act to put pressure on the LabelVie group so that it ends its partnership with the Carrefour group," BDS said in a statement cited by The New Arab. In 2019, the Moroccan company LabelVie signed a franchise contract with the Carrefour group, opening more than 70 stores throughout the kingdom. "Or your Carrefour partner must end its partnership with the two Israeli companies, and stop distributing the products of the settlements built on stolen Palestinian lands," adds the same source.
The two companies referred to by BDS are the Israeli company Electra Consumer Products and its subsidiary Yenot Bitan, "both active in the illegal Israeli settlements". Carrefour signed an agreement in 2022 with these two Israeli companies. This partnership is directly linked to the provision of services supporting the existence and maintenance of the settlements, as well as their use of Palestinian natural resources for commercial purposes. According to BDS Morocco, this partnership "makes Carrefour an accomplice to the war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation, colonization and apartheid regime against the entire Palestinian people."
The movement demands the end of these agreements. It has launched the hashtag "boycotting is resisting" to encourage Moroccans to take action against Carrefour. "Boycott. [...] Post about it. [...] Besiege the Carrefour store in your city, hand over a letter of protest to the store management," BDS Morocco said. The movement intends to fight this battle to the end. "Knowing that what we are doing is a form of protest and that it is a right guaranteed to every citizen by law. We will continue our struggle until we achieve the desired demands of our campaign," it has committed.
