Morocco Bars Entry to Students with Spanish Provisional Permits, Sparking Controversy

While they hold a provisional document with the same legal value as a residence permit, Moroccan students in Spain are being denied entry into Moroccan territory by certain agents at the kingdom’s airports. This situation has been going on for several months.
Certain agents at Moroccan airports do not recognize the provisional document entitled "Autorización de regreso" issued by the Iberian authorities to Moroccan students in Spain while awaiting the renewal of their residence permits. Sometimes they confiscate the document for various reasons: either because it can only be used once, or because only the residence permit allows access to the territory, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. For several months now, many Moroccan students have consequently been prevented from visiting their loved ones for several months. They fear not being able to enter Morocco during the next Easter holidays coinciding with the month of Ramadan.
The situation is puzzling for the students, as the "permiso de regreso" whose validity period is three months has the same legal value as a residence permit and aims to facilitate entry and exit from the territory.
