Morocco Bans Weapons, Drugs, and Counterfeit Goods for Returning Expats

The customs guide dedicated to Moroccans living abroad, published a few days ago, gives details of what can be imported into Morocco by MREs. Some products are prohibited and those caught red-handed risk answering to justice.

In its section on the regime applicable to personal effects and objects, customs gives details of what is strictly prohibited from importing into Morocco under penalty of sanctions. Thus, it is strictly forbidden to import:

• War weapons and their ammunition;
• Narcotics;
• Writings, printed matter, recorded cassettes and videocassettes and all objects contrary to good morals and public order;
• Counterfeit goods (Import and Export).

Customs warns that certain articles or products require the authorization of certain offices or services.

• Animals and animal products: veterinary certificate issued by the competent services of the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA);
• Plant products: phytosanitary certificate issued by the competent services of the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA);
• Endangered wild fauna and flora species and specimens of these species (Washington Convention): CITES certificate issued by the department in charge of Water and Forests;
• Hunting weapons and their ammunition:
in the case of a final return: authorization issued by the central services of the DGSN for their admission to free circulation;
in the case of a tourist stay (temporary admission): authorization issued by the local services of the national security.
• Certain industrial products subject to normative control, such as new clothing, footwear, cooking appliances, washing machines, etc., imported in commercial quantities: market access authorization issued by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy;
• More than one telecommunications equipment unit: approval from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT);
• Products subject to an import license such as:
• Unmanned, engine-powered and remote-controlled aircraft, such as drones, model aircraft, for example), Bladed weapons of any kind.
