Morocco Bans Upfront Payment for Emergency Room Care, Health Minister Orders

Hospitals will no longer require payment for care before taking care of emergency cases. This is the decision made by Ait Taleb, the Minister of Health, who has instructed directors to ensure strict compliance with this decision.
Break with practices that jeopardize the lives of patients admitted to the emergency room. This is the call that the Minister of Health has made to central and provincial officials as well as to hospital directors through a letter he recently addressed to them.
In this regard, Ait Taleb has placed particular emphasis on the rigorous implementation of the provisions of Article 42 of the hospital statute: "Any sick, injured or pregnant woman arriving in emergency situations must be welcomed and examined. They must be hospitalized if their health condition requires it, even in the absence of beds. The billing of the services provided should only be done after the medical care of these patients".
The Minister of Health has also urged the medical staff to provide reception and guidance services to patients, in order to improve the quality of care.
