Morocco Bans UK Cattle and Beef Imports Amid Disease Concerns

Moroccan customs have just banned, for a period of one year, the import of cattle and their meat from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
ADII (the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration) indicates, in a note, that this measure has been in effect since January 1st and was taken due to the mad cow disease that is raging in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
"Our research shows an increase in the prevalence rate of bovine tuberculosis in the high-risk area. But no information about mad cow disease. Let’s emphasize, however, that just like mad cow disease, bovine tuberculosis is a transmissible animal disease affecting humans and mainly affecting cattle herds," reports the daily Les Inspirations Eco
According to the media, "across the whole of England, the herd incidence rate for the months of October 2021 to September 2022 was 9.1, an increase of 0.3 compared to the previous 12 months." The measure was taken at a time when Morocco is preparing to face a new rise in the price of red meat.
