Morocco Bans Bottom Trawling in Mediterranean to Protect Marine Resources

The law on the use of bottom trawls in the maritime areas of the Mediterranean was adopted on Thursday, in the Council of Government.
The Minister of Tourism, Crafts, Air Transport and Social Economy presented this law on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests. The objective of this project is to preserve fishery resources and the sustainability of their exploitation in the maritime zone Fnideq-M’diq-El Jebha.
The project is part of the recommendations of the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH) which had advised the ban on bottom trawl fishing, notes La Map.
The project will be the subject of scientific monitoring by the INRH, in order to assess its impact on biodiversity and the state of fishery products in this area. This is what Saaid Amzazi indicated in a press release.
