Morocco Banks Process Over 400,000 Loan Deferral Requests Amid Economic Strain

Approximately 416,000 requests for the deferral of repayment of bank loan installments and those related to leasing credits have been received by Moroccan banks up to April 24, for an estimated amount of 33 billion dirhams.
During his intervention before the members of the House of Representatives, the kingdom’s finance minister, Mohammed Benchaâboun, recalled that only 5% of the 310,000 processed and accepted requests were rejected, while the other requests are still under study.
To date, 9,000 exceptional loans guaranteed by the state through Damane Oxygène have been recorded. They were initiated to support companies whose turnover does not exceed 500 million dirhams. The total amount of these loans, of which 124 have been rejected, i.e. less than 1.5%, exceeds 3.7 billion dirhams.
It should be recalled that the measure to defer the repayment of bank loan installments and those related to leasing credits was decided by the Economic Monitoring Committee.
