Morocco Baby Trafficking Ring Busted: 30 Arrested, Including Police and Health Workers

The regional brigade of the judicial police of Fez arrested this week 30 individuals, including police officers and health professionals, for their alleged involvement in a baby trafficking ring.
The accused would have served as intermediaries in the sale of babies, whose mothers are single, to families wishing to adopt children, for large sums of money, reports the MAP. Others would have blackmailed patients and relatives, promising them appointments for consultations, or helping them to obtain illegal abortions or false medical certificates.
Others would be involved in acts of usurpation of public functions, manipulation of medical appointments, theft and misappropriation of medical equipment and medicines intended for sale. Searches carried out at the homes of several suspects resulted in the seizure of drugs only served on prescription or prohibited for sale, medical equipment and large sums of money.
