Morocco Averts Over 1,200 Strikes in 2019, Government Reports Labor Peace

More than 1200 strikes defused in 2019. The government’s efforts to maintain social cohesion seem to be paying off, as can be read in a report from the Ministry of Employment which specifies that the year 2019 has so far recorded only 85 strikes for 50,000 lost working days.
This result, we are pleased to note, is the fruit of the efforts made by the government by increasing the SMIG and the SMAG, as well as the revaluation of family allowances. Similarly, the rapid management of individual and collective conflicts has played a qualitative role in maintaining social cohesion within companies.
Contrary to 2019, the year 2018 was very turbulent on the social level, recalls telquel.ma. The ministry’s report on the state of strikes initiated and averted speaks of 134 strikes recorded at 119 establishments, causing the establishments concerned to lose 116,851 working days.
The same document points out that 1218 strikes were averted in 774 establishments employing 89,800 people, from January 1 to September 30, 2019. In 2018, the Ministry of Employment recorded a total of 1644 strikes averted in 1056 establishments.
