Morocco’s Automotive Exports Surge 61% in First Half of 2021, Outpacing Import Growth

Automotive exports stood at 152.88 million dirhams (MDH) in the first six months of 2021, up 61.1% compared to the end of June 2020. At the same time, imports are also up 19.5%.
This development in imports is explained by the increase in purchases of all finished consumer products (+15.404MDH), semi-products, capital goods and energy products, reports EcoActu.
On the other hand, the energy bill increased by 21.1% in the first six months of 2021. This increase is explained by the growth in supplies of diesel and fuel due to the 14.13% increase in prices, added to the 11.3% increase in quantities imported. This level of energy imports is the one recorded before the start of the health crisis.
As for merchandise imports, exports stood at 152.88 MDH at the end of June 2021, compared to 123.292 MDH in 2020, an increase of 24%. This increase concerns the export of the majority of sectors, namely: automotive, phosphates and derivatives, textiles and leather.
For the automotive sector, sales reached 42.33 MDH against 29.65 MDH, an increase of 42.8%. A performance explained by the sale of the construction segment and the wiring segment. Figures that exceed those obtained over the past five years, the same source points out.
