Morocco’s Automotive Ambitions Surge, Aiming for 2 Million Cars Annually by 2030

Morocco plans to increase its vehicle production capacity from 700,000 to two million per year by 2030. A commitment that is frightening Spain.
"In three years, we will have a production capacity of one million cars per year and the goal is to reach 1.5 or 2 million cars per year in 2030," said Ryad Mezzour, Moroccan Minister of Industry, in a video posted on the ministry’s social media account. Answering questions from Internet users, Mezzour also stressed that the kingdom also plans to increase the integration rate in this sector from 69% today to 80% by 2030.
The Moroccan minister’s intervention comes after the announcement in November last year by the automaker Stellantis of investing 300 million euros to double the production capacity of its Kénitra plant, to reach 450,000 vehicles per year compared to 200,000 since 2015, the year the plant’s activities were launched.
According to the latest data from the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, automotive exports in Morocco reached 66.7 billion dirhams (6.1 billion euros) between January and August 2022, an increase of 29% compared to last year.
