Morocco’s Auto Industry Drives Export Growth, Reaching 66 Billion Dirhams

The automotive industry, Morocco’s leading export sector, continues on its good momentum. By the end of October, the figures reached nearly 66.23 billion dirhams, an increase of 12.4% compared to last year.
According to the Foreign Exchange Office, the good health of exports is attributable to the increase in sales in the construction segment (+21.6%) and those in the wiring segment (+1.7%), adding that the number of passenger cars exported during the same period reached 276,407 vehicles, up 11.5%.
Phosphate and derivative shipments are in second place with 61.16 billion dirhams, up 47.2%. This performance is attributed to both natural and chemical fertilizers, phosphoric acid and phosphates.
As for textile and leather exports, the figures stood at 30.27 billion dirhams, compared to 25.31 billion a year earlier, driven by the increase in exports of ready-made garments (+3.45 billion dirhams), knitwear (+1.45 billion dirhams) and to a lesser extent, footwear, the Foreign Exchange Office said.
