Morocco Assumes Leadership of UNESCO’s Arab Group for One-Year Term

Morocco replaces Egypt in the presidency of the group of Arab countries at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), for a one-year term. The handover ceremony between the two countries took place on Tuesday, at the Organization’s headquarters.
In taking over the presidency of the group of Arab countries within UNESCO, Morocco measures the extent of the challenges that await it, and the opportunity that has been given to it. "For a year, I will coordinate within this group on all issues related to UNESCO," said Samir Addahre, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to UNESCO, to MAP.
The group of Arab countries is one of the six most active electoral groups at UNESCO with 19 states. Samir Addahre stressed that it is a long-term work, but just as exciting, and that he is happy to tackle it as soon as possible. "We will also think together about projects that could interest each other. And when difficulties arise, it will also be up to the president to bring the views of some and others closer together," said the Moroccan diplomat.
The Arab group of UNESCO is involved in all activities, particularly those on heritage and education. The group also makes the safeguarding of Palestinian heritage a major focus of its action within UNESCO.
