Morocco Arrests Over 2,100 for Violating COVID-19 Emergency Measures

To ensure compliance with the state of health emergency, security operations are being organized by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). In total, 2,197 people were apprehended in 24 hours during these operations.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) stated in a press release issued on Monday that 2,197 people were apprehended for non-compliance with the state of emergency measure. Among them, 1,240 were placed in custody for further proceedings; the others are subject to investigation procedures. These arrests are part of the security operations carried out to enforce the state of health emergency, decreed to fight against the spread of covid-19.
Across the entire territory of the kingdom, 30,898 people have been apprehended since the implementation of the state of health emergency. 16,791 people have been placed in custody and then brought before the competent public prosecutors, the DGSN statement said. The police prefectures and the regional and provincial security of the entire kingdom are affected by these arrests.
In order to guarantee the health safety of all citizens, control operations will be multiplied and intensified throughout all the cities of the kingdom. The aim is to strictly enforce the state of health emergency by all citizens, insisted the DGSN, which assures that its services are instructed to this effect.
