Morocco Arrests Over 22,000 for Violating COVID-19 Emergency Measures

22,542 individuals were arrested in flagrant violation of the measures imposed by the public authorities, within the framework of the state of health emergency decreed to fight the pandemic of the new coronavirus (covid-19).
In a press release made public this Friday, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) ensures that in view of the qualitative analysis of statistical indicators, the majority of the recorded facts relate to refusal to comply and violation of the state of emergency measures, as well as the non-application of the directives of the public authorities. This is also added to the gathering, disobedience, incitement to gathering and disobedience, non-compliance with restrictions on movement and travel without authorization to leave the home.
Regarding the distribution map of the 22,542 individuals, the Casablanca police services arrested 3,611 individuals; those of Rabat, 2,950; those of Kénitra, 2,725; those of Oujda, 2,269; those of Marrakech, 2,122; those of Agadir, 1,883; those of Béni Mellal, 766; those of Fès, 762; those of Meknès, 476; those of Settat, 471, those of Tétouan, 470; those of Laâyoune, 313 and those of Tanger, 280.
As for the provincial security services of Salé, they arrested 1,712 individuals; those of Béni Mellal, 766; those of Ouarzazate, 477; those of El Jadida, 413 and those of Safi, 162. In addition, the regional security services of Errachidia arrested 392 people against 186 in Taza. In Al Hoceima, the number of people arrested is 102.
To ensure the strict and correct application of the state of emergency, and to ensure the health safety of all citizens, the DGSN has ensured that its services continue to intensify control operations in all Moroccan cities and coordinate their interventions with the various public authorities.
