Morocco Arrests Over 8,000 for Violating COVID-19 Emergency Measures

More than 8,000 people have been apprehended and subjected to judicial investigations since the establishment of the state of health emergency.
These people were arrested thanks to the operations carried out on the ground by the national security services in the various cities and urban centers to ensure the strict application of the state of health emergency, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
They were arrested either for not having the exceptional exit authorization, or for violating the measures of the state of health emergency, or for using false exit documents. These restrictions also concern the clandestine transportation of people, the preparation and sale of medical and paramedical products harmful to public health, gatherings and refusal to carry out work ordered by the public authority.
Since the establishment of this measure, the DGSN has mobilized all human and logistical resources to ensure rigorous control of the movements of people and vehicles within the cities. It also ensures the protection of public and private property and provides enhanced security coverage to support and accompany the preventive measures adopted by the public authorities to ensure the health security of Moroccans.
Furthermore, the technical services of the DGSN in charge of digital monitoring have carried out expertise and research that have led to the arrest of 82 people for their alleged involvement in the dissemination of digital content containing false information on the indicators of the coronavirus epidemic, or constituting a violation of the rights of infected persons.
