Morocco Arrests Over 46,000 for Violating Coronavirus Emergency Measures

Since the state of emergency was imposed to limit the spread of the coronavirus, many infractions have been committed by the population, forcing the security forces to make arrests. In the last 24 hours, 2,667 people have been apprehended, with 1,426 placed in custody.
The information was made public by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), which stressed that the people placed in custody will be the subject of an investigation ordered by the competent public prosecutors, while the others have been subjected to investigation, identification and identity verification procedures.
Since March 20, when this measure was imposed, "a total of 44,203 people have been arrested throughout the cities of the kingdom, with 24,054 referred to the competent public prosecutors after the custody procedure," according to a DGSN statement.
According to the same source, these arrests are distributed among the police prefectures and the regional and provincial security as follows: Casablanca police prefecture (6,210), Rabat police prefecture (5,848), Kénitra police prefecture (4,843), Oujda police prefecture (4,071), Marrakech police prefecture (3,931), Agadir police prefecture (3,243), Salé provincial security (2,875), Meknès police prefecture (2,170), Béni Mellal police prefecture (1,708), Fès police prefecture (1,426), Tétouan police prefecture (1,356), El Jadida provincial security (1,155), Tanger police prefecture (1,104), Settat police prefecture (1,051), Ouarzazate provincial security (898), Laâyoune police prefecture (698), Errachidia regional security (589), Safi provincial security (430), Taza regional security (416) and Al Hoceima regional security (181).
The DGSN does not intend to stop there. It has announced "the intensification of control operations in all cities and the coordination of their interventions with the various public authorities in order to impose the strict and firm application of the state of emergency", for the benefit of all.
