Morocco Arrests Nearly 4,000 for Violating COVID-19 Emergency Measures

Despite numerous awareness campaigns, violations of the state of emergency are multiplying in Morocco. Over the past 24 hours, the security forces have arrested 3,795 individuals, of whom 1,910 have been placed in custody. The others have been subjected to investigation, check-in and identity verification procedures.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), which coordinates these operations to enforce the state of health emergency, indicated on Sunday, in a press release, that since the declaration of the state of health emergency by the public authorities, "a total of 72,685 people have been arrested throughout the cities of the kingdom, of whom 38,842 have been brought before the competent public prosecutors after the custody procedure".
According to the MAP, the Casablanca police prefecture still tops the ranking with 9,709, followed by the Rabat police prefecture with 9,406 arrests. The police prefectures of Kénitra, Marrakech, Oujda, Agadir, Salé, Tétouan, Mèknès, Béni Mellal, Fès, El Jadida, recorded respectively 7,936, 6,748, 6,059, 4,658, 3,959, 3,882, 3,796, 2,995, 2,275, 2,109 arrests. As for the other prefectures and regional security forces, the number of arrests is estimated between 1,997 and 263.
The DGSN calls on the population to strictly respect the measures of the state of health emergency, under penalty of incurring the rigors of the law.
