Morocco Arrests 5 for Inciting Gatherings, Violating COVID-19 Restrictions in Fez

Five individuals suspected of disobedience, incitement to gathering and endangering the lives of citizens, through the violation of the state of health emergency, were arrested on Monday in Fez.
It all started with the deliberate decision of these five young people to incite citizens, last Saturday, to gather on the public highway in the old Medina and the Ain Kadous and Bensouda neighborhoods in Fez, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
They deliberately disobeyed and refused to comply with the preventive measures taken within the framework of the state of health emergency. This behavior is likely to undermine the security and safety of citizens.
The research and investigations carried out by the elements of the prefectural judicial police service of Fez, in collaboration with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), made it possible to arrest the suspects, aged between 26 and 49 years old.
Furthermore, the operation to identify the suspects in the databases of wanted persons revealed that one of them had been convicted under the anti-terrorism law and that another had a criminal record for acts of violence and attacks on persons and property.
For the needs of the investigation, they were placed in custody.
