Morocco Arrests Two for Illegal Online Sale of Abortion Pills

Two individuals were indicted on Saturday in Nador for their alleged involvement in the illegal sale of abortion pills on social networks.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security reported that the two accused, aged 25 and 37, were identified thanks to the fake profiles used on Facebook.
The preliminary investigation, conducted by the judicial police of Nador, made it possible to seize large quantities of abortion pills, payment receipts, in addition to the sum of 146,307 dirhams, from the illicit trade.
According to Professor Chafik Chraibi, 600 to 800 Moroccan women have abortions daily. Due to a lack of legislation to protect them, women most often turn to clandestine home abortions.
For this, they use the drug "Artotec", an anti-inflammatory whose use has been diverted. Withdrawn from the legal circuit in August 2019, it has since been offered clandestinely online and given the sums seized by the police, it seems to have been very successful.
