Morocco Arrests Two for False COVID-19 Reports in Social Media Prank

The dissemination of rumors and fake news has been severely punished in Morocco since last week. Two girls arrested on Saturday evening by the judicial police in Tangier learned this the hard way.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicates that its services had spotted a video on social networks showing four girls mockingly contacting the coronavirus monitoring system to report false cases of covid-19 contamination. This required the opening of an investigation that led to the arrest of two of the persons involved. Investigations are continuing with the aim of apprehending the other people appearing in the video.
The two persons involved, aged 21 and 22 respectively, were placed in custody, pending the conclusions of the preliminary investigation ordered by the competent prosecutor’s office.
Citizens who use the alert and monitoring phone numbers for purely fanciful purposes are in the sights of the DGSN, which has begun identification and investigation operations, in order to sanction them according to the rigors of the law, it is recalled.
