Morocco Approves Law to Allow Foreign Doctors to Practice

Morocco intends to recruit foreign doctors. The draft law to authorize the opening of the health sector to foreign skills was adopted on Thursday by the Council of Government.
The draft law No. 33.21 amending and supplementing law 131.13 relating to the practice of medicine, thus adopted by the government, aims to revise the legal conditions of access to the practice of medicine for foreigners, explained the government spokesperson, Saïd Amzazi, stressing that the initiative was instructed by King Mohammed VI.
Indeed, he continued, the Sovereign had called for examining the possibility of opening the health sector, currently not authorized to foreigners, to quality initiatives and world-class skills. In addition, the draft law aims to encourage Moroccan skills practicing medicine abroad to return to their country, confided Saïd Amzazi.
The other context that presides over the adoption of this draft law is related to the implementation of the framework law 09.21 on social protection. Given that this law will expand the base of insured citizens, it then becomes necessary "to open up broad prospects for strengthening the medical human capital as a key component for the efficiency of the health system," explains a government press release.
It is about opening up to foreign and Moroccan medical skills abroad to allow them to practice medicine permanently in the Kingdom, as well as the removal of obstacles related to the temporary practice of medicine in Morocco for foreign doctors and those Moroccans residing abroad, Amzazi further said.
