Morocco Appoints New Consuls General, 20% Women Among Diplomatic Nominees

25 new consuls have been appointed in a dozen countries for the year 2021, following a call for applications launched in February. The list of these new diplomatic representatives and their places of assignment have been unveiled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad.
Nearly 45% of the Kingdom’s Consulates General are affected by this operation, which is part of a logic of consolidating the acquired consular expertise and recognizing merit, since 28% of the appointments concern officials who have previously held the position of head of consular post.
It is also for the government to bring new blood into the consular function with 72% of the Consuls General appointed for the first time. This operation is also a way to promote female skills with 20% of appointed consuls.
Through this new operation of mobility of Consuls General, the ministry aims to improve and modernize the consular services provided to Moroccan nationals residing abroad as well as to foreign citizens, especially in the current context marked by the health crisis related to Covid-19.
