Morocco’s Anti-Corruption Hotline Leads to 217 Arrests, Receives 100 Daily Calls

Launched three years ago, the anti-corruption hotline of the Public Prosecutor’s Office receives more than 100 calls per day, according to Ghita Mezzour, Minister of Digital Transition and Public Administration Reform.
In response to a written question from the PAM on the operation and effectiveness of the anti-corruption hotline, Ghita Mezzour indicates that this line created by the public prosecutor’s office aims to collect reports of acts of corruption by telephone and fax. In three years, more than 67,000 calls have been received on the number 0 537 718 888.
It also made it possible to arrest 217 people in the act of corruption. These include public and private sector officials, and this in all regions of Morocco. According to the minister, "the decline recorded in the corruption perception index" in Morocco and the non-realization of all the set objectives "do not mean the failure of previous strategies". For her, efforts are being made every day to improve the tools put in place for an effective fight against corruption.
She took the opportunity to speak about the electronic portal for access to information www.chafafiya.ma, launched in 2020 which, according to the minister, has contributed to the simplification of the services offered by public services.
