Morocco’s Annual Saffron Production Reaches 6.5 Tons, Festival Highlights

Morocco produces around 6.5 tons of saffron each year. The data was revealed during the International Saffron Festival held this weekend in Taliouine (Taroudant province).
According to Saleh Aghzaf, Director of the Regional Office for Agricultural Development of Ouarzazate, "more than 1,780 hectares are dedicated to saffron cultivation, and the annual production is estimated at 6.5 tons".
On the agenda of the 13th edition of the International Saffron Festival, under the theme "Taliouine saffron, leader of local products and lever of rural development", a fair of local products was organized.
A large stand was dedicated to the cooperatives working in the enhancement of saffron, very well known in the High Atlas region. There were also other stands dedicated to handicraft products and natural ones such as argan, dates, henna, garlic, aromatic roses, honey and medicinal plants.
Performances, sports competitions and training workshops for saffron farmers, to strengthen their skills in the enhancement and marketing of this material, were also on the menu.
