Morocco Announces Major Salary Boost for Public Sector Workers by 2026

The Moroccan government has revised upwards the salaries of civil servants and state agents. Younès Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, is the bearer of this good news.
Civil servants and state agents can rub their hands. The average net monthly salary will increase from 8,237 dirhams in 2021 to 10,100 dirhams at the beginning of 2026, announced the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, during an intervention on May 1st. Regarding the minimum net monthly salary in the public sector, he also announced that it will increase from 3,000 dirhams to 4,500 dirhams, in accordance with the guidelines of King Mohammed VI. Agreements have been concluded in several sectors due to injustices suffered by certain categories, the minister said. As an example, he cites the education sector. A budget of 17 billion dirhams has been allocated to it.
Thanks to the agreements concluded at the end of 2023, 330,000 civil servants of the Ministry of Education, including teaching staff, benefit from a general increase of 1,500 dirhams. In addition to this salary increase, there is a set of allowances such as the allowances for increasing the value of grade 3 and above allowances for excellent grade officials, which benefited about 12,000 people, including teaching staff. The implementation rate reached 80% for the last agreement concluded in December 2023, Sekkouri said. According to him, the sectoral dialogue continues to follow up on all commitments made "in order to correct an inappropriate situation and repair the injustice that affected the teaching family."
The health sector, which has "contributed a lot to Morocco," is also concerned. The overall financial cost of social dialogue in this sector amounted to 3.5 billion dirhams, which allowed a salary increase of 500 dirhams for nurses, as well as a salary increase for administrative staff.
The minister also mentioned two royal projects: direct housing assistance and direct social assistance. Since the launch in January 2024, about 130,000 applications have been registered, of which about 25% are from Moroccans residing abroad (MRE), the minister said, adding that the overall budget dedicated to implementing this program has reached 3.5 billion dirhams, pending the processing of other requests addressed to this important royal program.
What about direct social assistance? "The number of beneficiaries has reached 3.9 million families across Morocco, according to a clear and precise procedure desired by" King Mohammed VI, Sekkouri said, noting that the budget allocated to this project amounted to about 27.1 billion dirhams by the end of 2025, to reach 29.4 billion dirhams from 2026.
