Morocco Announces Date for Eid al-Adha 2024 Celebration

The Feast of Sacrifice or Eid al-Adha is celebrated on the 10th of the Hijri month of Dhu Al Hijjah, by the entire Muslim community around the world. The last month of the year, Dhu Al Hijjah is the month of the pilgrimage to Mecca, where millions of Muslims gather for a month to perform the ritual of Al Haj.
The Muslim community practices the sacrifice in respect of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad. This commemorates the strength of the faith of the prophet Ibrahim in his God, who accepted the order to sacrifice his son, the prophet Ismail. At the last moment, God sent a divine offering, in this case, a sheep, which was to be substituted for the child.
Muslim families celebrate this feast, in the prophetic tradition, by slaughtering sheep, goats, cattle or camels. The ritual is supposed to respect certain rules recommended by the Prophet, such as the age of the animal, the way it is slaughtered or the share to be offered to the poor.
This year, the new moon of the last month Dhu Al Hijjah 1440 will be born on August 1, 2019, but will only be visible to the naked eye on the 2nd of the month. The beginning of the month will take place the following day, on August 3. Consequently, Moroccans will be able to celebrate Eid al-Adha on August 12 and 13, 2019.
