Morocco and Switzerland Sign Transport Cooperation Agreement, Focusing on Road Safety

Closer relations between Morocco and Switzerland in the field of road and rail transport. This is the result of a working session held in Switzerland by a large Moroccan delegation led by Abdelkader Amara, Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water.
It was on board a train bound for Erstfeld that the Memorandum of Understanding between Morocco and Switzerland was signed. Discussions on road safety, a key point of cooperation between the two states, took place between Abdelkader Amara and Federal Councilor Simonetta Sommaruga. According to the 2m channel, the Moroccan delegation, composed of senior officials from the Ministry of Equipment and professionals from the road, public works and engineering sectors, visited the Heavy Traffic Control Center in Ripshausen.
According to the head of the Moroccan delegation, the Memorandum of Understanding "covers about twenty areas of cooperation, from planning to the operational phase". The importance of cooperation on transport issues will be at two levels.
The first concerns the "sustainability" theme, especially since in Morocco it "constitutes a strategic orientation, the Kingdom having adopted a pioneering strategy of renewable energies", according to the Minister. The second component relates to the efforts to be made for the development of the railway.
The two countries are committed, according to the same source, to collaborate, exchange and work on topics related to the transport sector, whether it is financing, infrastructure issues, tunnels, an area where Switzerland has gained great experience.
