Morocco and Spain Sign Agreements to Advance Gibraltar Strait Tunnel Project

On Thursday in Madrid, Morocco and Spain signed two cooperation agreements aimed at strengthening their partnership for the studies of the fixed link (tunnel) project across the Strait of Gibraltar, specifically in the fields of digitization and engineering.
These signatures took place during the visit of a Moroccan delegation from SNED (National Company for Studies of the Strait of Gibraltar), led by Abdelkbir Zahoud, who met with his Spanish counterparts from SECEGSA (Company for Studies on the Fixed Crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar), chaired by José Luis Goberna Caride.
The technical discussions focused on document digitization, future data management, and project engineering. A first agreement links the Spanish CEDEX (led by Áurea Perucho Martínez) and the Moroccan LPEE (led by Hamou Bensaadout) for technical studies covering roads, soil engineering, railways, and the environment. The second one unites the Higher Technical School of Road Engineers of Madrid (represented by José Miguel Atienza Riera) and the Hassania School of Public Works in Morocco (represented by Jaouad Boutahar) for academic and scientific cooperation including exchanges, internships, and joint research.
This initiative is part of the exchange program between SNED and SECEGSA, in line with the decisions of the Spanish-Moroccan joint committee in April 2023. The common objective is to strengthen the synergy and mobilize the scientific and technical networks of the two countries in order to build a broad ecosystem (public bodies, universities, engineering firms, research centers) in service of the fixed link project.
