Morocco and EU to Sign Green Alliance, Boosting Climate Change Efforts

Morocco and the European Union are about to sign a green alliance, which will strengthen the kingdom’s efforts in the fight against climate change.
The agreement will be signed during the visit to the kingdom of the Executive Vice-President in charge of the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans, scheduled for October 18-19 and will concern areas such as energy, climate and the environment.
The agreement is part of the EU’s Green Deal, which paves the way for enhanced cooperation and strategic dialogue in the field of climate change mitigation and facilitates joint efforts towards the green transition.
The objective is to strengthen the relations between the two parties through the "development of new innovative and mutually beneficial partnerships, and translate a strong political convergence between the two parties on environmental, climate and sustainable development issues".
It should be noted that the EU and Morocco had signed a Joint Political Declaration establishing the "Euro-Moroccan Partnership for Shared Prosperity", adopted in June 2019 by the EU-Morocco Association Council, which identified cooperation in the field of energy, climate change mitigation, environmental protection and promotion of the green economy as a priority axis.
