Spanish PM Sanchez to Meet King Mohammed VI in Morocco, Aiming to Boost Bilateral Ties

Pedro Sanchez is making a state visit to Rabat on Wednesday, the Moncloa announced on Tuesday. The Spanish president is expected to have a face-to-face meeting with King Mohammed VI.
The purpose of Sanchez’s visit to Morocco has not been specified in the Moncloa’s press release, but the Spanish leader is expected to meet with King Mohammed VI on Wednesday, according to diplomatic sources at El Confidencial, who specify that Sanchez wanted to go to Rabat in November, just after his inauguration, but did not have the guarantee that he would be received by the Moroccan monarch.
Since April 7, 2022, the date of the normalization of Hispano-Moroccan relations, this is the second time that Mohammed VI has received Pedro Sanchez in audience. In the eyes of the Moncloa, this exchange with the Moroccan Sovereign is very important, as it testifies to the consideration of the Moroccan authorities towards the Spanish.
On February 2, 2023, Pedro Sanchez led the Spanish delegation that took part in Rabat in the first High-Level Meeting after the long diplomatic crisis between the two countries. At the time, the Spanish president had not been able to meet Mohammed VI, who was on vacation in Gabon.
Fallout is expected from this visit by Pedro Sanchez to Morocco. "There will be very positive messages," predicts a Spanish businessman very active in Morocco. This trip by the Spanish president to Rabat comes ten days after his Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, canceled at the last minute his first official visit to Algiers.
