Morocco and Israel Foreign Ministers Hold First Call Since Diplomatic Ties Resumed

Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita exchanged a phone call on Tuesday, February 2 with his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi on strengthening bilateral cooperation. This discussion is a first since the resumption of relations between the two countries.
"I had a first warm and friendly conversation today with my Moroccan counterpart, Mr. Nasser Bourita. We agreed to work together to quickly implement the agreements between Morocco and Israel," the Israeli official tweeted on his account. "We also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation as well as broader regional issues," continued Gabi Ashkenazi.
On Tuesday, December 29, the Moroccan Foreign Minister had already spoken by phone with Israel’s National Security Advisor, Meir Ben-Shabbat, on several issues of common interest. During this conversation, the two officials decided to set up working groups that will consider the conclusion of collaboration agreements in many areas, including investments, agriculture, water, environment, tourism, science, innovation and energy.
Due to the health crisis caused by the coronavirus, it is planned that these groups will work online. In addition, Moroccan officials are expected in Israel in late February to finalize the terms of these agreements. As for the Israeli delegation, led by Ben Shabbat, it should also travel to Morocco during the same month.
