Morocco and Iraq Condemn Trump's Gaza Relocation Proposal as 'Dangerous Precedent'

Morocco and Iraq expressed on Saturday their firm opposition to US President Donald Trump’s proposal to expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and resettle them in other countries, considering this idea as a "dangerous precedent" and a violation of international law.

In a joint statement, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Hussein "condemned" and "rejected" Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate the inhabitants of Gaza to other countries, stressing that "this movement constitutes a dangerous precedent that violates international and humanitarian law and threatens the security and stability of the region".

The two parties also called for respect for the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas and the implementation of all its provisions to "end the war", achieve "the release of Palestinian prisoners, the return of displaced persons, access to aid" and the beginning of reconstruction in the Gaza Strip.

In their joint statement, the Moroccan and Iraqi ministers also expressed their "constant" support for the "legitimate rights" of the Palestinian people to create a Palestinian state, expressing the hope that this agreement "would pave the way for the creation of a Palestinian state", in accordance with UN resolutions.

In addition to Morocco and Iraq, other countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian Authority and the Arab League have also expressed their firm opposition to Trump’s proposal to relocate the two million inhabitants of Gaza to countries like Jordan and Egypt.
